About Dunlavin GAA

Dunlavin GAA Club was founded in January 1890. This period of Irish history was both a difficult and changing time in our Country. Within our island, there was a common aim of the revival of our national identity. These changes were cultural, political, and sporting.
The Name chosen for our club was “Sons of Saint Nicholas“, the people who’s vision to commence our GAA Club and who’s footsteps we follow in are recorded clearly in our Club House and within the club’s history book – “The Son’s of Saint Nicholas“, 1890-1984.
Our home grounds would have been Norton’s Field at Coonanstown, then Valentine’s Field at Boherboy. More recently we played at Deering’s Field at Cross Keys, The Pound Road, The Station Road and now our home ground on Sparrow Road, proudly opened on the 30th April 2005.
While many people have contributed to our survival, possibly the two watershed days in football were the winning of our 1965 first minor championship and our first senior championship in 1977.
The outcome for these successes brought our club to where the earlier members would have had ambitions for but were unable to reach for various reasons as outlined earlier.
The structures were being more organised during this period with a focus on Juvenile coaching and leagues being introduced. Thus providing more games, more off-field activity, and more organisation including formal membership, fundraising, and player welfare.
Dunlavin GAA Club has provided and continues to provide players for Wicklow GAA County teams at all levels and codes. We have provided officers for our County Boards for the administration of our games. Juvenile games and participation has grown and continues to do so, with championship wins at all age levels.
The club has grown over the past 60 years to become an inclusive and welcoming club for all to promote and participate in accordance with our own by-laws and constitution as issued by our parent Gaelic Athletic Association.
The future development and success within Dunlavin GAA will depend on the input from our players, members, sponsors, and stakeholders. Our policy of continuous improvements is as paramount today as it was in 1890 and throughout this timeline.

Our Teams

In 2024 it was agreed, due to the number of young girls in our club, and to ensure all our juveniles were playing equal amounts of football, to register the club with the LGFA. 

And so began our girls under 8s and under 10s teams. This was a huge success, all our players have an abundance of equal playing time and we are building stronger, more confident footballers for both Dunlavin gaa & St Nicholas lgfa.

We are delighted to have the numbers of juveniles we have in the pitch each Monday evening and we welcome all kids to come and give Gaa a try. There’s a team for everyone!

Hurling acadamy

Our hurling academy for 4 to 8 year old boys and girls has been up and running since May 2025, each week our numbers are growing. The academy is a fantastic chance for Boys and girls to try out hurling and have lots of fun.

Come along on Tuesdays at 6pm for an hour of fun!
