Our Club In 2023

Beginning 2026.......

Dunlavin Gaa History book launch, Thursday 28th May 2026 in Scoil Nicholas Naofa, Dunlavin.

A huge thank you to all who came to share in our hugely successful book launch.

We were delighted to have so many in attendance to share this huge moment with us & what an achievement it is.

Amazing words were spoken about the book, it’s writers & our club history, from our former Chairman Andy O Brien, our current Chairman Ken Clarke & of course, Shane Delmer, Chairman of our History Group, who was instrumental in getting this book from, what began as just an idea, into the fine hard copy we can now hold in our hands today. A massive well done to Shane & the History Book team.

We were very proud to have our county Chairman Damien Byrne with us for the launch and we were delighted both himself & Jimmy Dunne were able to make it, Jimmy was credited immensely by Shane in helping this book come to life, his help with research & his knowledge were an amazing asset to have so we thank him, for not just his help the past few years, but also the beautiful words he spoke last night.

This book was years in the making, following on from Jimmy Whittles’ successful “Sons Of St Nicholas” & amazingly, it incorporates the original book and brings us back through 80 years of our club.

From just flicking through its pages, it is clear to see the work that has gone in, it is beautiful, from the front cover to the back and that’s before you delve into its pages.

We have no doubt that anyone who didn’t get to attend our launch night to buy one, will be eager to get a book in their hands as soon as possible & they are now on sale for all to purchase.

Just contact any member of our committee, or give Kelly a call/text on 086 1075439

Thank you once again to all who came to help us launch this amazing book, we appreciate each one of you who came to support it, our guest speakers, our local counsellors, our committee, our players, our members & our supporters & our community.

This book is written for you & about you.

Enjoy it!!!

FUNDRAISING!

No words to describe how 2026 has began for our little club.

Sunday 1st of Feb 2026 was beyond what we could have imagined for our club and community with the hige success of our Lip Sync fundraiser..

Each act should be bursting with pride for what they have acheived, the entertainment & enjoyment provided by each and everyone of them may  never be seen again!! They are all truly amazing!!!!

Every single person left The Keadeen hotel with a huge smile on their face and it’s down to every performer who took to that stage.

Our winners of the night, were The Hot Mamas who stole the show, their performance, costumes & assets, will be the talk of the town for many weeks! 👀

But there were certainly no losers on the night, each act gave something completely different & entertained us non stop throughout the evening, performances worthy of any stage.

The pride, of what our small club and community has achieved, the success of this fundraiser is mind-blowing and will take awhile to sink in.

From the beginning of our fundrasing efforts in October 2025, the effort eveyone has put in has been inspiring and as of 11.30pm on Sunday 1st of Feb, WE RAISED OVER €100,000!!!

Mind blowing.

The acts, The sponsors, The organisers, The supporters, The ticket buyers, The team of hardworkers who worked so well together and pushed this all the way, a massive thank you to everyone single person who supported us in any way.

This was a community effort & is a true testament to what can be achieved when a small number of hard working people come together with a goal they believe in, we may be a small community, but the results are mighty.

Aisling Grace & her committee were the driving force behind this incredible fundraiser & we cannot sing their praises enough, well done & thank you to each of you for all your hard work.

If this is a sign for the season to come, bring it on!!

ON THE PITCH!

Our juvenile teams from under 7s to under 12s have been busy each week playing games in both Kildare and Wicklow leagues, we have an enormous amount of children each Monday evening from 6.30pm at the pitch for training, this is a huge indication of the work going on in the club and how our future is looking.

All our juvenile teams have all started strong in both Wicklow & Kildare leagues, we have seen players return to gaa after an absence, we have seen new players join at all our age groups once again this year, our juvenile hurlers train on Tuesday evenings from 6pm and the are growing in numbers each week.

Championship season is now upon us so it’s about to get very busy for all our teams.

Our 1st and 2nd adult teams are almost wrapped up in their league campaigns & almost ready for championship to start.

Our first team manager Damien Mcmahon aalong with his management team of Eoin Mcmahon, Shane Birchall, Davy Carty & Shane Daniels have put in a few weeks of hard work with our adult players since the start of the season and the lads look in great shape, so we look forward to championship & wish Damien, management & the intermediates the best of luck.

Mikey Phelan, Damien Moore & Deano Phelan with the junior team will also be hoping to put some of their unlucky league results behind them and hit the ground running for championship, so best of luck to them also.

We hope to see plenty of support for both teams at all the games.

With all that’s happening on and off the pitch here in the club, we are delighted at the direction the club is going, we appreciate all the work and effort being put in, week in, week out and look forward to the completion of our clubhouse upgrades and our all weather pitch, which will be a fantastic asset to our community.

Masked Singer 2024

Well, Where do ye start?

What a night.

To say it exceeded our expectations would be an understatement.

When Thomas Harney suggested The Masked Singer as a fundraiser a few months ago, there was a lot of back on forth on how we could make it work, where we would hold it, how it could raise money & more importantly, what 8 poor fools would voluntarily get inside the costumes!!!

We put our heads together & came up with a plan!

We bought, dressed & named our 8 characters.

We were blessed that The Fox Dunlavin opened up just as we began our planning & offered to host us for the big night.

We promoted as much as we could, our juveniles had lots of opportunities to meet the characters at training, they even turned up at the odd senior game!

We sought the support of many generous sponsors, for each character, raising over €1000 each before the big night.

Then we found the fools. 8 of them.

Who performed out of their fur last night!

And a huge thanks go to all 8 of them, brave enough to don the suit & take on the crowd!! Without them, the night would not have been as special.

Many months of planning, work & effort, but when you see the success that was last night, it was worth every second of the hard work.

And we look forward to many more club nights like it.

  • Thank you to The Fox for hosting us.
  • Thank you to our DJ Brendan Coyne & Rachel for her help with microphones
  • Thank you to William Winders for videoing our live stream
  • Thank you to our judges, Tommy Brennan & Amy Barrett music
  • Thank you to our many sponsors, who all gave so generously and for all their support to our club.
  • Thank you to our committee, who work tirelessly behind the scenes, no days off! And who put together a fantastic night.
  • Thank you to all who have been roped in at some stage to wear the costumes over the past few months.
  • Thank you to all who came last night to support us, our players & members who make Dunlavin Gaa the club it is.

And finally, to Annie Davis, Davy Carty, Matt Miley, Aisling Grace, Joe Metcalfe, Karen Crossan, James Whelan & Sinead Quinn, a million thank yous for braving it out & entertaining us last night!!!

Juvenile news

Our Juveniles now have their own committee, a move which was much needed, not only because our numbers have grown so much these past years, but to show how important the juveniles are to the club & to furnish them with their own voice in the club.

Since coming onboard, this juvenile sub committee have:

The late Tommy Foley

It’s with heavy hearts and sadness that we learned of the passing of Tommy Foley in October 2024

Tommys passing will create a huge void in our GAA Club and our community.

Tommy was a larger than life personality.

He has represented his club at juvenile county finals as well as many adult county finals, including 3 senior football finals winning two in 1977 and 1981.

Tommys inter county career for Wicklow is well documented over the years at underage and senior level and recently a well-earned entry into the Wicklow GAA Hall of Fame.

No doubt Tommy would have created golden memories for those who were lucky to have played with him at club and county level and not so golden memories for those who played against him at club and county level.

A Mighty Oak Tree has fallen, and we say a sincere expression of gratitude to you Tommy for all you did for your Club, Community and County.

JERSEY LAUNCH

A fabulous morning for our jersey launch, topped off with a win for our senior team!

Many thanks to all our players & parents for coming to the pitch this morning to unveil our fabulous new jerseys for all our teams, it was brilliant to see so many of our players showing off the new kit, no amount of rain could dampen their spirits!!

Thank you again to our sponsors for making this happen, all of our age groups now have their own sets of jerseys, from our under 7s up to senior teams, including our under 8s & under 10s girls teams.
